First Love

I remember the first time I "fell in love." Steven was the brother of one of my friends. There were two main things that made me interested in him:

1. He was super cute!
2. He liked me as much as I liked him.

Looking back, I dove in way too hard, way too fast. I didn't take time to consider if he was the type of person I could imagine spending my life with. I didn't pay too much attention to his character qualities ... I was too focused on his dazzling baby blue eyes. In the end I gave him all of myself, and I ended up with a broken heart. I want better for you.

Are you interested in someone? Is he a person you'd consider dating? Here are some things to ponder before you draw closer:

1. How is his relationship with God?
2. Would your parents and youth pastor approve?
3. Do you have similar interests?
4. How does he treat his parents and siblings?
5. Does he date just to date, or is he looking for a special person?
6. Does his goals in life match yours?
7. Does he treat women with respect?
8. Would his personality continue to draw you over the years, even if his looks fade?

You don't have to know the answers to all the questions right away, but these are something to consider. HE is something to consider ... before the excited beating of your heart clouds your judgement.

Years ago, I taught 9th grade girls Sunday School. I had them make a list of the qualities they'd want in a Godly husband. When the list was complete, I had them start praying fro that guy, whoever he was.

Out of the 5 girls in my class, I've seen 4 of them marry that young man and 3 have children now. I can't tell you the blessings I got from seeing those lists come to fruition. :)

I love your blog. It is amazing. :) Like seriously. I read it all the time.

But... you see I have an "issue". there is this guy... and he is perfect! He is so on fire for God, and he is going to be attending a Christian college in the fall to major in Bible, and follow with Seminary- he wants to work as a youth pastor- maybe even later a Senior Pastor... and welllll... I really love him. He loves me too. We both are interested in the same field of work, and both are crazy in love with God. We have the same views, and it really is incredible how much we have in common. I feel like this is right, I don't want to get to serious, but I really would love to date him and all that. He has asked me, and I had to let him down. My parents are not okay with me dating him because he is already 18. I am a Junior. He is graduated. He told me he would wait as long as it takes because there is no other girl he wants to date, no girl like me. I know it is true. He has been waiting for 4 months now... he dates no one else. What do you think? I mean is 2 years that big of a difference? We both agree that we need to respect my parents, and their opinions, but it seems unjust. Right now we are kind of waiting it out, but I really would like to hear your opinion. You are real role model for me, and I look up to you and your blog. I just don't know what I can do. He told me that we needed to pray... last time I saw him in person he took my hands and bowed his head... and we prayed. We agreed we need to just leave this relationship at the cross, and if it is meant to be God will provide, and will make it happen. It just is so hard.

What do you think?

Love, Makay
