New Years’ Resolutions

Camy here, and yes, I’m already thinking about New Year’s Resolutions!

I have to admit I love making resolutions even though I don’t always keep them. There’s something about a fresh new year with new intentions and hopes.

My resolutions aren’t anything unusual:

1) Keep up with my running
2) Control my eating and lose 20 pounds this year
3) Be more efficient and improve my time management

How about you? What do you hope to do during 2011?

Camy Tang writes romance with a kick of wasabi. Out now is her humorous contemporary romance novel, Single Sashimi, and her romantic suspense, Formula for Danger. In her spare time, she is a staff worker for her church youth group, and she leads one of the worship teams for Sunday service. On her blog, she ponders dogs, knitting and spinning wool, running, Asiana, and other frivolous things. Sign up for her newsletter YahooGroup for giveways!

My Christmas was great! Thanks, how was yours?

I really want to get realy close to God this year. I want to be able to talk to Him and actually know He's there. I've always just know Him as some great being far out there.
I also want to read more of my Bible. I know I say that every year, but this year I'm really going to try and succeed.

That's a great resolution! And I think you'll really do it this year!

My Christmas was great! My uncle made prime rib and crab legs!

Hmm! Kind of like you..I will work on the twenty that I didn't lose in 2010, make regular exercise a priority, spend more time in the word and study and to figure out how to put a children's book together. (:

I totally agree, sometimes I have a great idea for a story, but I can't get past page one. They have morals to them, and I think they need to be heard. I've thought of asking a friend to write them for me. I've gotten to a point that I'm just writing 3-5 page stories.

sunnycalgirl--sounds like a great plan!

anonymous--you know, short stories are just as great as novels! They both appeal to readers of fiction. What's wrong with writing short stories? Go for it!

I'm afraid that no one will like them. Being so short, they'll think they're for 3-5 yr. old children, but they're really for 10-12 yr. olds. It's the story, not the difficulty level, that makes it for older children. Also, I'm only 12.

Camy Tang said...

No, just because a story is short doesn't mean it's for younger children. Also, usually a story will list the genre so you just say it's for tweens (10-12 year olds) in the story description. But first, just write a few stories. You could also put them together in an anthology of short stories.

Good idea, but doesn't it cost money to have a book published. Like editors and all of that.
I don't know, I don't even let my family or friends read them.

Camy Tang said...

It costs money if you self-publish a book, but if you go the traditional route, they pay you for your manuscript. Or you can self-publish an ebook, that doesn't cost much at all. But it also depends on if you want other people to read your stuff--if you don't, then obviously you're not going to care about publication. :)

Would you be willing to read my things?

Camy Tang said...

I'm afraid I don't have time these days--I'm writing my own manuscripts, which are under contract with my publishing houses--but there are several website communities where people will give you honest feedback if you'd like. I've used Writing.com and the critique groups for the American Christian Fiction Writers organization (http://www.acfw.com/).

Thanks, I'll check it out.

What are your books about?
What books would you recommend to me of any of your books or other ones you've read? I like romance, realism, Christian, teen, girls, heartwarming, some adventure, but I can't read crime, suspense, or extremely sad.

My Sushi series is humorous Christian romantic women's fiction: http://www.camytang.com/sushiseries.html

I also wrote some Christian romantic suspense. The suspense isn't too suspenseful, but I'm not sure how much suspense you like or not: http://www.camytang.com/romanticsuspense.html

Also, a great resource is FictionFinder.com, where you can search for all kinds of Christian fiction by a variety of parameters, like genre, suspense level, keywords, etc.

Happy New Year!

I just got some of your books today, but I was wondering: is Sushi for One the first books of the Sushi series or how does that go?

Camy Tang said...

Awesome! Thanks! Sushi for One is first, Only Uni is second, and Single Sashimi is third. The fourth book is coming out in September, I'm selfpublishing that. My other two books are not part of the Sushi series: Deadly Intent is first and Formula for Danger is second.

I just have a quick question or two but if you don't want to answer then okay. I just started reading Sushi for One and I was wondering if the fourth one is about Jennifer since I already have the other 2.
Off topic, sort of, do you know Japanese?

Camy Tang said...

Thanks for reading Sushi for One! Yes, the fourth book coming out in September (I'm self publishing it) is about Jennifer. The first three books were published by Zondervan.

No, I know almost NO Japanese. I can't even order in a restaurant! LOL

Do you want to know Japanese?
If you don't mind, I have some questions about writing and some other more personal questions.

What does wasabi mean?
Do you play volleyball?
Where did you get your idea for the story?
How did you decide what characters would be like. i.e. Mimi almost being a protagonist, Lex always getting the bad end of the deal, things like that?

Anyways, so far I'm really liking it.

Camy Tang said...

I've wanted to know Japanese but just don't have the time to learn right now. I'm doing too much with my youth group, my marathon training, and my writing.

Wasabi: http://camytang.com/about/#tag

Volleyball: http://camytang.com/about/

Story idea: http://myra.typepad.com/randomly_/2007/09/camy-tang-inter.html

and
http://jennybjones.blogspot.com/2007/09/introducing-camy-tangand-free-book.html

All three are slightly different takes on the same thing.

Characters: That's a tricky one. You just come up with characters you want to read about, I think.

Just one more question.
I'm almost done, but I was reading about when Mimi helped Lex. Mimi was actually seeming nice, but she wasn't at the beginning, so is she supposed to be nice or not?

Camy Tang said...

In a book, you want to show character growth. If someone is all bad or all good it can be a little boring. So I showed some character growth in both Mimi and Lex.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry if I keep bothering you with questions; do you mind if I ask you questions as I keep reading your books?

Does Mimi and Lex's grouth stay the same? I can't tell yet. I just think they'll drive each other crazy when Lex lives with Mimi.

I'm now reading Only Uni. I felt so sorry for Trish when she saw her dad with the other woman.

What are your next book going to be after Jennifer? What will you write about then? Mimi or Grandma or a new series?

Anonymous said...

I know I ask you a lot of questions, but how did you decide to use the Corinthians and Ephesians for your books; why them?

Camy Tang said...

Jenn's story comes out in September 2011! If you've subscribed to my newsletter, you'll get info on when it's available and where. After that, I have lots of other books coming out this coming year--again, if you subscribe to my newsletter, I'll keep you up to date on what's coming out.

Ephesians/Corinthians--those books seemed to fit the characters' internal arcs in the books.

What are you going to name Jenn's book, so I know what to look for at the library?

Camy Tang said...

It's Weddings and Wasabi. You can read a blurb on my website:
http://www.camytang.com/sushi-series

I'll be self-publishing it so I doubt your library will have it. I'll have it available as a free ebook download exclusively for my newsletter subscribers for a limited time in September 2011. It'll also be available for purchase on Amazon.com, bn.com, and christianbook.com in Sept or Oct. I really hope you like it!

Okay, I think my library will get it if I request it; I'm one of their star borrowers! :P
